John Henry

John Henry graduated from Kingston School of Art & Design with a BA (Hons) in 1984 with a show at the Boiler House, V&A.   He worked as a creative director in London for 20 years in retail design, winning awards including D&AD and travelling the world.  He always had a keen eye for detail, composition and colour and a rigourous and exact method of drawing.

Now living in Gloucestershire, he paints in oil and acrylic.  In his series “Capturing the Light” he explores the contrasts of light and shadow.  He says of his work:

“What interests me is how light deforms things as well as capturing them.  Shadows create a depth which can distort the original image.  I also like looking at random movements inside the natural geometry of built environments.  A room, courtyard, or building has a rigidity of framework.  It is the passing through of another object or person into this angular grid; its randomness and fluidity and the way light affects it which interests me. It’s not about the actual space but how things interact within it to create movement.”
